Sector Rotation - which sectors are leading, and which are fading

Week ending 2026-11-02 (page generated 2026-11-03): IT leads this week's relative rotation against Nifty 50, Chemicals lags furthest behind.

What this page tells you

Not every sector moves with the market at the same time. Some are already beating Nifty 50 and accelerating; others are falling behind and still decelerating; some are turning - either just starting to fade, or just starting to recover.

This page places all 21 real NSE sectors on a relative rotation chart against Nifty 50, updated weekly, so you can see where each one sits right now - not just whether it's "up" or "down" this week, but whether its relative trend is accelerating or decelerating.

Why it matters

A sector's own return doesn't say whether it's actually gaining ground on the broader market, or just moving with it. RS-Ratio answers the first question (is it beating Nifty 50 right now), and RS-Momentum answers the second (is that lead growing or shrinking). Together, they separate a sector that's genuinely strengthening from one that's merely riding the index up.

This isn't a signal to act on by itself - it's a diagnostic, same as every other live page on this site.

CHART

Sector rotation - RS-Ratio vs RS-Momentum

Both axes are centred on 100. Leading = beating Nifty 50 and accelerating. Lagging = behind and still decelerating. Improving/Weakening are the two transitional states.

Questions, answered

What is sector rotation?

Sector rotation is the tendency for money to flow between sectors as the market cycle changes - some sectors lead while others lag, and that leadership rotates over time. This page tracks which of 21 NSE sectors are currently outperforming Nifty 50 (and gaining or losing momentum), updated weekly.

What do RS-Ratio and RS-Momentum mean?

Both are centred on 100. RS-Ratio at or above 100 means the sector is beating Nifty 50 on a relative basis; below 100 means it is lagging. RS-Momentum at or above 100 means that outperformance (or underperformance) is accelerating; below 100 means it is decelerating. Together they place each sector into one of four quadrants.

What do the four quadrants mean?

Leading: beating Nifty 50 and still accelerating - the strongest state. Weakening: still beating Nifty 50, but losing momentum. Lagging: behind Nifty 50 and still decelerating - the weakest state. Improving: behind Nifty 50, but gaining momentum - often the earliest sign of a turn.

Is this the JdK RRG?

No. This page uses Punji's own simplified relative-rotation calculation, not the proprietary Julius de Kempenaer Relative Rotation Graph (RRG) methodology. The visual layout (four quadrants, ratio vs momentum) is a common convention; the underlying calculation is not licensed RRG.

How often is this updated?

Weekly, every Saturday around 12:50 IST, replacing the full table. This page always shows the latest completed week only - no historical trail is queried from this site.
